The Wheat Penny Press Little Readers Big Change Initiative, a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization affiliated with Row House Publishing, is committed providing free and affordable books, enriching programming, and vital funding for creative arts to vulnerable communities and their most talented members.
Through strategic partnerships with both local and national organizations, we amplify our reach and enhance the visibility of our initiatives, thereby expanding the benefits of our programs to a wider audience. Our collaborative approach ensures that the resources and opportunities we offer have a profound and lasting impact on those we serve.
And because we believe that big change often begins with small—a spark of inspiration, a bit of insight gleaned from a tiny setback, a bump in the road that jostles you just enough to shake out a new idea—we concentrate on initiatives that, while seemingly modest, drive significant, positive transformation.
Our commitment to these small-scale efforts underpins our mission to foster a society where creativity and knowledge flourish, empowering individuals and enriching communities at large.
Since our founding in 2020, we have donated more than 10,000 books to schools and organizations, hosted writing workshops for elementary and middle school students, and partnered with local organizations to create unique experiences like free book fairs and carnivals. Little Readers Big Change has also supported Black-woman-owned booksellers nationwide through fundraising and sponsored events.
Little Readers Big Change awards micro-grants in amounts ranging from $250-$2500 to indie creators with marginalized identities living in the United States. To apply, simply email hello@wheatpennypress.com with your name, business name (if applicable), location, amount requested, and a brief description of your project and how it contributes to community and the greater good.
